Raeisian stated: Dadkhah was arrested with a number of other lawyers at his office in Raad Legal Institution on July 8th by security officers in a police raid.
After their arrest, they were all transferred to Niloufar Police Station and they were all released on the same day except for Mr. Dadkhah. So far there is no information about Dadkhah’s condition and no authority in Iran has taken the responsibility for his detention.
Raeisian added: At the time of his arrest, His office was searched thoroughly and all of the existing files were taken. Following this event, with permission of Revolutionary Court's Prosecutor’s Office, the files belonging to Law students and trainees as well as his colleagues’ documents were returned to them. It is important to mention that the building lock where the arrests took place has been changed in order to prevent the presence of other colleague lawyers in that location considering the fact that there was no order to seal the building.
According to Raeisian, Mr. Dadkhah has a medical illness and consequently there is concern about his physical health in the prison.
Seyed Mohammad Ali Dadkhah is a prominent lawyer in human rights and preservation of cultural heritage. He has provided legal representation for a number of cases related to 4000 students as well as cases related to preservation of historical sites including restitution of Jahan Nama Tower in Naqshe-e Jahaan Square situated at the center of Isfahan city in Iran. This square is an important historical site and one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The square is surrounded by buildings from the Safavid era. Another example was preservation of Pasargad Archeological site from flooding the Sivan Dam. If the construction of this dam had taken place, it could flood the ancient archeological sites of Bolaghi Gorge and Pasargad Plains where the mausoleum of Cyrus the Great - the author of the first declaration of Human Rights in mankind's history was situated. Mr. Dadkhah also represented a legal case against construction of railroad in proximity of another historical site called Naghshe Rostam.
Naqsh-e Rustam is an archaeological site located about 12 km northwest of Persepolis, in Fars province, Iran. The oldest relief at Naqsh-i Rustam is severely damaged and dates to c. 1000 BCE.
Raad Legal Institute owned by Mohammad Ali Dadkhah has trained more than 120 law students since its establishment in 1975. It should be mentioned that this Institute has legally represented a great number of politcal, civil and cultural heritage cases on a pro bono basis and free of charge.
